Program Description
Chronic pain is a challenge for patients and health care providers. Opioids which have traditionally served as the back bone of treatment have little evidence-based and well documented harms. The need for a different approach is clear. Strategies that offer an inter-disciplinary approach to pain including physical therapy, acupuncture, chiropractic medicine as well as a more robust understanding of addiction, opioid and their consequences are needed. In this activity, subject matter experts will discuss these disciplines and their roles in treating chronic pain. The overall goal of this activity is for health care providers to more appropriately prescribe opioids, specifically much less, and consider more inter-disciplinary approaches to treating patients with chronic pain.
This training meets the requirements set forth in RI Regulation 3.14 Prescriber Training Requirement for Best Practices Regarding Opioid Prescribing. This specific training requirement is required only once and must be completed before renewal of controlled substance registration or two (2) years (whichever is longer).
